Soy milk, some yogurt, and some cheeses can be important components of a diet for a diabetic patient who is lactose intolerant.

Diabetic patients can develop insecurity when it comes to eating fruits. Fruit juice can be a poor choice for some diabetic patients. However, eating fruit that is in its natural form or sliced, canned fruit in the appropriate portion size can be a very healthy food in a diabetic diet.

Vegetables offer a wide variety of choices for diabetic patients. For diabetic patients who feel that their diabetic diet has become bland or routine and boring, trying different vegetables can help improve the sense of variety and freedom.

Some fats are better choices than others. When selecting a cooking oil, extra virgin olive oil is often considered the best choice. Low-fat salad dressings are excellent substitutes for regular salad dressings.
