The Connection Between Headaches and Weight Gain

I have a client who gained a significant amount of weight in the course of two years. She also suffered from migraines and inquired if there could be a connection.

Putting on that much weight in that amount of time is rather considerable and worth exploring any connections. I also felt it important to understand if she had been suffering from any other health concerns or using medications.

She had tried several migraine medicines over that period of time. One would stop working, so a new one would then be prescribed to take it’s place. She also continued to gain weight.

Knowing that most migraine drugs cite weight gain as an unfortunate side effect, this was not terribly surprising. Gaining weight is a potential side effect of many medications prescribed for just about everything from depression to hypertension.

In addition, many of these drugs also list headaches as a side effect. In fact, the very medications prescribed to treat migraines can cause rebound headaches.

An increase in weight may also appear as the result of how we react to the migraines i.e. a less physical lifestyle. People may tend to avoid exercise in order to avoid certain migraine triggers such as light, loud noises, certain smells, and air pressure changes.

Making things even harder to sort out is determining which issue may have created the other. Yes, medications may carry the side effect of weight gain. On the other hand, obesity may have led to the migraines.

As always, I feel it is important to stress that it would be ill advised to suddenly discontinue any medication you have been taking. You should consult your physician as withdrawal effects can be life threatening.

The results of my Weight Loss Breeze and Migraine and Headache Relief Programs have been phenominal. Both are completely natural and include special breathing and relaxation exercises with fast results.
