There are many different methods to remove a skin mole. A surgeon will inspect the are and then they will offer what they think is the best method to remove the mole. Surgeons will check to see if the mole is cancerous and take the most precautions before the skin more removal process.

The first method is a surgical incision where they cut the mole out of the skin. They will go outside the mole border and make sure they cut out all connective tissue so that the mole cannot regrow. Then you will receive stitches and depending on how deep the mole cut is the stitches will be on the outside of the skin or the inside.

Skin mole removal for those surface moles requires just scraping with a scalpel. After the surgeon planes down the mole level to the skin, he finishes the job by electrically cauterizing the area. The cauterization stops bleeding so there are no stitches necessary when you get this type of skin mole removal.

The next method is only done if the mole is shallowly on the surface. It will be done with a laser. A laser will not leave scars but if the mole is deeper in the skin it may regrow. The laser cannot penetrate deep into the skin tissue.

Regardless of the method that the surgeon uses, you’re going to have some redness and pain. Discuss pain medication with your surgeon prior to any procedure. If you have any reactions to specific drugs, the time to let him know is before he removes the mole. Make certain that he also understands all medications that you take, so any drug he prescribes for pain doesn’t interact with the your present medicine.

Expect to have a scab for a week or two. Once the scab falls off you’ll most likely have a red spot for the next four weeks. This gradually fades away and you should barely be able to see where the skin mole removal occurred. If there is any scarring that doesn’t disappear in time, the surgeon has methods of removing those also.

Insurance companies often say that skin mole removal is a cosmetic surgery. Because of this the insurance companies often do not cover the procedures. You can get estimates on the skin mole procedures and it would be wise to do so if that is the case.
