People are now searching for natural ways to relieve their sinus problems rather than take medications. Despite the relief offered by those medications, people would rather get natural alternatives to avoid the side effects of prescription drugs.

Chronic sinusitis is a condition that affects millions of people worldwide, and with allergens like pollen, cigarette smoke, smog or pollution, and pet dander, it’s no wonder many of us struggle with sinus problems on a daily basis. Rather than relying on, or worse, becoming dependent upon, prescription or over-the-counter drugs, why not try one of the many natural solutions available instead?

Even with the use of antibiotics, stubborn sinus problems may still persist, and too many antibiotics usually ends up causing negative effects such as yeast infections as they not only kill the “bad” bacteria, but also the “good” bacteria our bodies need to stay healthy.

With natural ways to relieve sinus problems, you will not have to spend lots of money. Just use the resources available at your own home. Combine one teaspoon of salt and a pinch of baking soda to two cups of warm water. Flush this mixture into your nostril with the head tilted back and the other nostril closed. Blow out the water gently. Do it on the other nostril.

Another natural remedy is the use of hot water. Hot water steam is a very effective in relieving stubborn sinusitis. You can even do it as man y times as you want without the worry of any side effects. Hot shower or hot bath is also helpful in treating sinus problems. Just allow the hot water to run down your face from your forehead. This will effectively loosen up the clogged mucous in your sinus cavities.

Or, using a preparation of lavender, tea tree, and eucalyptus oils with boiling water may also help to open and clear the sinuses as well as the lungs. First boil a pot of water then pour into a medium sized bowl, while it’s still steamy hot, add two drops of each oil, lean over the bowl and cover your head with a towel and inhale the steam for three minutes.

Since you are using eucalyptus oil in the mixture, or if you don’t have eucalyptus oil, you can use peppermint instead, be careful not to open your eyes when doing the procedure to avoid painful eyes. Wipe your face after each procedure before opening your eyes.

Doctors said that what you eat everyday is associated to your stubborn sinusitis. If you are having sinus problems, avoid including in your diet those spicy foods, dairy and wheat products, and some citrus fruits that stimulate your sinusitis.

Instead, get some drops of grapefruit seed extracts everyday or some apple cider vinegar. Although these drops are not good to taste, the effects are truly remarkable. Just follow the drops with a glass of water to wash away the unpleasant taste.

Some supplements are also helpful like the potassium supplements, which are known for faster drying up of the mucous. You should also take as much water as you can everyday to keep your body rehydrated. Water helps the body flush away the mucous.
