Finding out what dreams mean -Is it possible? We dream in visions and kaleidoscopes. Dreams are like movies. They can be a horror movie, romantic movie, sex movie, adventure movie or sad story. People tend to remember certain dreams better than others. The remembered dreams are usually vivid or pleasant. If we are experiencing a pleasant dream during our sleep, we usually feel like we are in heaven, and we never want the dream to end. On the other hand, we quickly forget bad dreams that cause us to stay awake at night.

Experts, gurus and professionals are all fascinated by dreams. Psychologists, spiritual healers and religious advocates, have different ways of interpreting dreams. A normal person will be confused by many interpretations of dreams. Most of the time, they do not make sense. No one likes to hear a bad interpretation of a dream. Most people will rather not have their dreams interpreted. People of a specific religion, cult, culture or belief will often listen to interpretations of dreams offered by their leaders or divine figures.

Most people will have interest in dream theories offered by their cultural leaders. Groups of believers will share their dreams in a religious or common interest setting. The way a person is brought up and his or her personality has an effect on their interest in dreams. High-class individuals and low class individuals will have different opinions on dreams. The learned may also not care about dream interpretations, while the uneducated may takes dreams seriously.

People from the city and populated towns are less likely to be concerned about dream interpretations than people from rural areas or countryside. It does not stop here, however. The demographics of dream belief also show a trend in age and sex. Teenagers and young adults are less likely to be concerned about the meaning of dreams. Whereas, older people will show an interest in dream interpretation. As people grow older, they tend to focus on spiritual matters. Therefore, it is not a surprise to see a large population of older people taking a keen interest in dreams. Sex is also a factor. More women than men are interested in dreams and what they mean.

It is difficult to discuss about dreams and what they mean. Discussion of dreams may seem like nonsense for one section of people. Actually most people are not keen to talk about dreams because the stories are just ridiculous and often childish. After all, if you seriously talk about dreams in your conversations, people will just wave away your statement with a sigh “It’s just a dream. You should not take it seriously”. Dreams are better kept to yourself or else you will come across as a weirdo. You only have to choose the ones you like, psychological, spiritual, horoscopes or religious.

According to psychologists, dreams occur in a phase of our sleep called REM. This stands for Rapid Eye Movement. Other terms for REM are “active sleep” or “paradoxical sleep”. Before a person reaches REM, he or she must go through the first four phases. REM is stage number 5. The first stages are the preparation stages or progression of sleep. At stage 4, the sleeping person will enter a phase known as “delta phase”. The brain waves slow down. Sleepwalking may occur at the end of this phase. Bed-wetting may also occur in younger children. REM follows. A person in REM sleep will have increased respiration rate, high brain activity and rapid eye movement. Dreaming occurs at this stage because brain activity increase while the muscles become relaxed.
