Female infertility is the result of various factors that affect a woman’s body. This article tries to enumerate them and explain them to you.

The inability of a woman get pregnant and become a mother is referred to as female infertility. Female infertility can occur due to any of the following cause:

General causes - The level of fertility starts to decline after she crosses the age of 27 years. Between the ages of 30 and 35 years, female fertility levels continue to fall at the rate of 3% to 5%. After the age of 35 years, the rate of fall in the female fertility accelerates greatly, culminating with a total disability to bear a child after menopause around the age of 50 years of a lady,

Genetic causes - Androgen insensitivity syndrome and such other related genetic problems can cause female infertility,

? Hypothalamic- pituitary factor is responsible for causing Hypothalamic Amenorrhea. This accounts for the lack of menstruation due to hormonal disbalance. This discrepancy happens due to discordance in the thyroid gland and the hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal system. Since, these organs control the reproduction process, a problem in them ruins fertility in women.

? One of the ovarian factors like Polycystic ovary syndrome affects the production of FSH or follicle-stimulating hormone. Consequently, the production and development of egg or ovum faces with a deadlock causing infertility. Other disorders are Anovulation and Diminished Ovarian Reserve. Innately women have a definite egg or oocyte reserve, which depletes as age advances. Also, the condition of oocytes degenerates.

? Diminished Ovarian Reserve is another ovarian factor in which the woman is affected as she advances in her age. Premature Menopause happens when the follicles start depleting even before the woman reaches menopausal age making her infertile. Menopause starts when her reproductive structure comes to the end and Luteal dysfunction or Luteal Phase Defect is responsible for Implantation Failure which can again leave a woman infertile. Ovarian Cancer obviously makes a woman infertile. Some other ovarian factors include Gonadal dysgenesis in the form of Hypogonadotropic hypogonadism in which both the lutienizing hormone (LH)) as well as the follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH is produced poorly and as a result, functional ovaries fail to develop.

? Peritoneal causes, related to ectopic (tubal) problems - Primary among these factors is Endometriosis. In such cases, the endometrial cells, that are present in the female womb, start to get accumulated outside the cavity of the uterus. This cavity already has a lining of endometrial cells, and the latter are influenced by the hormones of the woman. Now, these hormones also start to affect the endometrial cells located outside the cavity. With time, grave problems can arise from this, leading up to female infertility. Conversely, an infertile woman is often found to be suffering from endometriosis. Other Tubal peritoneal reasons, like Pelvic Inflammatory Diseases, can cause infertility. In these cases, alternative forms of bacteria can cause different infections in the female appendix, her reproductive parts as well as in her intestinal organs (that are located in the lady’s pelvis). If these infections affect the fallopian tubes of a woman, the female egg cannot move through them in the direction of the uterus. As a result, problems of female infertility crop up. Termed as Salpingitis in the medical circles, this is indeed a common cause of infertility in women. Other problems in the pelvic area, like Pelvic Tuberculosis, can also occur, with similar adverse effects on the reproductive system of women,

? Causes related to the uterus - The female uterus can have fibroids (with some of them just below the uterine cavity lining areas). Known as submucosal uterine fibroids, these can cause heavy flow of blood during menstruation. Uterine fibroids can also lead to frequent miscarriages and female infertility, and

? Cervical factors include Non-receptive cervical mucus and Cervical Stenosis. Cervical infertility refers to the inability of the sperm to pass through the mouth of the uterus because of an obstruction in its way (a) Due to inhospitable or inadequate cervical mucus; (b) Stenosis, which is also known as cervical narrowing; (c) Infections of the cervix with common STD (sexually transmitted diseases) like Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, Trichomonas, Mycoplasma hominis, Ureaplasma urealyticum and (d) Sperm allergy.

Thus female infertility can be caused from a number of factors. And so, suggesting an effective treatment is very important. Going for conventional treatments will not help much as it will not try to find out the root cause and will only suggest assisted reproduction techniques such as ICSI and IVF. On the other hand, holistic remedies analyzes the overall health and well being of the females and identifies the real causes and only then suggests remedies. These remedies come in the forms of Chinese medications, herbs, acupuncture exercise, diet and lifestyle changes to get the desired results. This approach of holistic remedies to cure infertility is so much more successful.
