Easy and Effective Dry Skin Treatments

Many dry skin treatments just require a bit of common sense. When the top layer of the skin has insufficient water, the skin becomes dry. Factors that can cause dry skin are strong soaps, harsh climates, hot showers or baths, and a poor diet.
Extreme cold, dry air and strong wind will dry up the skin’s natural oil supply. Sun beds and smoking are two further culprits. Without enough moisture the skin hardens and flakes. Often people suffer with dry skin through no fault of their own. Their skin simply does not retain moisture well.
The best way to prevent skin dryness is to keep your skin soft and moist. Whenever you wash your face, use a good quality facial moisturizer. And, after a hot shower or bathing, use a thicker moisturizer on your body. When you feel your skin starting to dry up again, apply more moisturizer.
Before going to sleep, apply a night moisturizing cream. This can keep the skin lubricated and moist while you are asleep. The thicker the cream, the better its efficacy will be. Use a cream with Rose Hip oil for excellent results. Rose Hip contains high levels of Vitamin C and Vitamin A which are beneficial to dry and cracked skin.
Indoor heating systems and wood stoves emit hot, dry air which can make your skin lose moisture rapidly. If you switch the temperature down 2 to 3 degrees, your skin will feel a lot better. If you live in harsh, dry winter climate, humidifiers will keep moisture levels in the air correct.
Sun exposure will also cause dry skin, not to mention sunburn. Whenever you are in the sun, wear a light cotton long-sleeved shirt. Use a sunscreen lotion that has a high protection factor. While swimming, apply a waterproof sunscreen.
Put some organic bath oil in your bath. This will replace moisture and relieve chapped, dry skin and sooth irritated, damaged skin. After bathing, apply oil to your body while the skin is wet. This helps seal in the properties of the organic oil. Always use oils with Vitamins A, D and E. To keep your skin’s pH level correct, use virgin coconut oil.
If you follow these easy dry skin treatments, your skin should be healthy and moist. Don’t forget that a bad diet can play havoc with skin. To keep your skin looking smooth and young, eat foods that are high in sulfur. Drink at least 2 quarts of water daily to ensure your skin stays hydrated.
