Strep throat or sore throat, caused by streptococcal bacteria, is a contagious infection. It is more common in children and teens between the ages of 5 and 15; however, it can also affect adults. It causes throat pain, inflammation and irritation of throat, red and swollen tonsils, swollen lymph glands, headache, fever, loss of appetite, nausea and malaise. Strep throat, if left untreated, can lead to dangerous complications like tonsillitis, ear infections, sinusitis, poststreptococcal glomerulonephritis (inflammation of the kidney), scarlet fever and rheumatic fever. Strep throat is treated with different medications including antibiotics like amoxicillin, clindamycin or penicillin and pain relievers like acetaminophen or ibuprofen. Besides this, you may opt for some home remedies, which helps to reduce the severity of the symptoms.

Drugs and medications administered to treat strep throat can lead to certain side effects in the long run. Hence, you can try various home remedies, which are safe and equally effective. These natural remedies accelerate the healing process by stimulating the immune system in your body to fight bacteria. Ideally, dog teeth cleaning should be a routine part of your pet’s regular care and their teeth should be brushed on a daily basis, or at least every other day or so. Because dog teeth are just as susceptible to disease and decay as are human teeth, it’s extremely important keep tartar and plaque at bay to protect your dog’s precious health.
Dental Health and Hygiene in Dogs
Diseases of the mouth, teeth, and gums can be very painful for your pooch and because they aren’t able to tell us when they have a toothache, as pet owners we must be diligent in keeping up with our dog’s dental care. The number one way is to bleach your teeth! This can easily be done with Crest white strips, tray bleaching or chairside bleaching with your dentist. Tray bleaching is my preferred method, since it can be touched up easily and affordably in a night or two. Chairside bleaching is ok, but it can require multiple costly treatments and touchups are can be expensive if not included in the initial fee. White Strips have the same cost each time they are used and many of my patients have found them yucky!
The number two way is bonding. If you have a misshapen or rotated tooth or if the shapes of your teeth create a smile you don’t like, then a trained dentist can painlessly change your smile by adding a bonded composite material to your teeth. Minimally bonded smiles can look great and tend to look more natural than a fully veneered smile. When people see your new smile, they usually notice your own, natural teeth, not the small altered portion. Bonding, combined with a prior bleaching treatment, is one of your best options for teeth that look wonderful. Although bonded teeth can look great, they do sometimes pick up stain and the texture bonded surfaces can change over time. Read more »

Tooth decay, also known as dental caries or cavity, is the demineralizing of hard elements of the tooth (such as dentin, enamel, and cementum) which is the result of a bacterial process. Certain bacteria (i.e. Lactobacillus and Streptococcus mutans) transform starchy carbohydrates or sugars that stick on your teeth into acid, and hence the acid causes dental erosion. The hard tooth structure will gradually break down and cavities will form. Dental caries can lead to more serious problems if left untreated, such as tooth infection or even tooth fracture.
To prevent tooth decay, you should practice good oral hygiene and maintain a healthy diet. It is very important that you consume foods that are rich in Vitamins A, C and D, fiber, calcium, and magnesium. Read more »
