Can Vitamin D Deficiency Increase Hypertension?

Is vitamin D deficiency and hypertension interrelated? This is a question asked by many of the people.

It provides enough amount of Vitamin D. Among Vitamin D2 and D3, D3 will be exerted by skin due to ultraviolet light in sunlight.

hypertensionTo make the body work properly Vitamin D works in conjunction with other vitamins and minerals. Vitamin D deficiency causes bone weakness. Healthy bones are formed and maintained by Vitamin D which helps in absorption of calcium.

There have been several studies which have shown that people with Vitamin D deficiency and high blood pressure have a 50% greater chance of suffering a stroke, heart attack or heart failure than those without the vitamin deficiency.

Is there a Way to determine if lack of Vitamin D might be my problem?

Performing a blood test is the best way to find if you have Vitamin D or not, as the symptoms looks alike any other disease.

Different groups are more susceptible to Vitamin D deficiencies than others. Older adults cannot synthesize the vitamin as well and therefore, need more Vitamin D to process. They also tend to avoid exposure to sunlight more than younger adults or children.

Those who are homebound, living in northern latitudes, whose occupations preclude them from direct sunlight, have the risk to have Vitamin D deficiency.

Larger amounts of the pigment, melanin produce darker skin and also reduce its ability to process Vitamin D from ultraviolet exposure.

Obese people are also at a greater risk for Vitamin D deficiency. Obese people have a lower plasma concentration and Vitamin D tends to accumulate in the fat cells.

It is recommended first talking to your doctor, spending ten minutes per day in the sun can also obtain Vitamin D.

The amount of Vitamin D intake should be consulted with a nutritionist or doctor before consumption. Eggs, milk and fish like cod and salmon can provide Vitamin D.

There are Vitamin D supplements available, however, a doctor should be consulted since this is a fat soluble vitamin and other health conditions could arise if you are taking too much.
