Alkaline Diet Food Questions

The key to the alkaline diet is to eat more healthy alkalizing foods. The good news is that alkaline diet food doesn’t have to be boring. In fact, alkaline-producing whole foods come in a range of textures, flavors, and colors, adding a pleasant variety to your meals.
1. Choose Fresh Fruit When You’re on the Go
When you’re always on the go, it’s tempting to grab a snack bar and a soft drink from a convenience store. But these types of convenience food are acid-forming, fattening, and just plain bad for you. Alkaline-producing fruits are a healthy alternative. An apple, an apricot, or a bunch of grapes is convenient enough to eat after a jog or on your break at work.
2. Use a Little Meat to Add Flavor
Many people have steak, roast beef, or fried chicken as the main course. Sometimes the only “vegetable” present is a sprig of parsley. For a healthier and more alkalizing meal, have a vegetable-rich salad, stir-fry, or soup, with a few ounces of lean meat, beans, tempeh, or pumpkin seeds to provide protein.
3. Make Vegetables Part of Every Meal
Whether you have them steamed, stir-fried, or raw, vegetables are the single most valuable type of food for losing weight and improving your pH balance. Lots of people hardly ever think beyond lettuce and sweet corn, but they’re missing out on many health benefits. For example, yellow, orange, and red vegetables can make sure that you get plenty of beta-carotine. Meanwhile, dark green vegetables like chard, collard greens, and spinach are often a great source of vitamin K.
4. Avoid High-Calorie Dips
For a healthy snack, cut raw vegetables into strips and dip them in hummus, bean dip, salad dressing, or salsa. But avoid high-fat (and acidifying) cream- and cheese-based dips, such as onion dip.
5. Save Alcohol for a Special Occasion
Virtually all alcoholic beverages cause your body to become more acidic. Even moderate alcohol consumption can have other harmful effects on your health, as well. For instance, studies show that alcohol increases the risk of esophageal and laryngeal cancer, and may raise the risk of breast cancer by as much as 60 percent.
