The workplace is notorious for initiating and breeding stress. Deadlines, productivity objectives and performing reviews are some of the daily factors we face and might trigger stress. Still, having the right state of mind does not only help balanced people to be successful and calm but can also be learned and adopted by everyone else. Here are some useful points to reduce stress at work.

1. Have a Thicker Skin

It is very likely that, despite the best practices that a company might employs to eliminate workplace bullying, an unproductive worker - particularly an unproductive manager - will look for others to shift blame to, for deadlines not met or mistakes made. Higher your standards and make a conscious decision what to react to and what to ignore.

Stress2. Avoid Blaming Ourselves

Inevitably, the lower ranking members of the workplace bear more than their fair share of blame. But with no relevance to our rank or position, an important role in not being our own stress factors is to admit only on wrong things that we actually did and to learn from it for the future. We may not be able to avoid being blamed by others, but this is their story not ours. We can avoid blaming ourselves and the additional stress that it causes by replacing it with learning.

3. Fully Plan Ahead

By complete planning we can immensely reduce stress. Leaving things until the last minute or neglecting to make a plan “B” for times of changed circumstances, will increase stress. It can help move on the projects as well as lessens tension even when things might go off beam.

4.  A second Parachute

Always have reserves. In an already tight deadline it might seems like an unneeded extra safety layer. But like every decent “Murphy Law” when there is anything that can go wrong, it will go wrong. That is why preliminary arrangements can harvest more peace of mind and less stress afterward. No one jumps a plane without a spare parachute.

5. Avoid Hastiness

Especially in the workplace - haste makes waste. It is much better to take ones time achieving a more relaxed conclusion than to be panicking and making snap decisions as time runs out. Mistakes and poor choices are much more likely to occur if they are made under stress and looming deadlines. Instead, imagine the possibilities when making decisions at leisure and with a calm and calculated approach to their likely impact.

6. Establish Order

To finish, Stress is usually caused by being a victim of a self chaos. Setting boundaries between work and home is essential for reducing stress. Leave work without the extra unnecessary baggage of work stress. It is heavy enough as it is, isn’t it? Besides, you owe it to your personal life to be present, available and devoted as you are for work. Therefore at the end of the work day: go home, relax, recharge your batteries and sleep well. Tomorrow is a new day and you would better be prepared to catch its opportunities. Wouldn’t you?
